The Next Big Thing: Mopeds

Swag.
Cheap to run. Cheap to buy (£100-£200 on ebay). "Retro" appeal. Road Tax free if you get an old one. I see no reason why we all aren't buzzing about on mopeds.

Cool.
Yeah, I think it would be pretty great zooming along on your moped, the wind in your hair, not a care in the world...*SIGH*...As the video below illustrates.

I Am Well Ghetto

Three 6 Mafia
This is Three 6 Mafia and this is their song "Rainbow Colors" (featuring Lil Flip) as far as I can tell they are singing about their favourite sweets & fizzy pop...I like to play this on my walkman while walking round Asda doing the big shop....Mad feels

Disco In India

Scene from Bollywood classic 'Disco Dancer'
So, er...yeah Disco In India. Yes! India had a thriving disco scene, sadly it started in 1980 when disco as a whole was as about as popular as a ginger haired stepchild. But no matter India embraced disco with gusto and started knocking out a few disco bollywood films for good measure.

Almost as good as Studio 54
To start with most of the disco tunes made actually in India were simply affectionate tributes shall we say...But that didn't last for long and soon a strange and slightly cool thing started to happen the formula was simple Disco + Bollywood Music + Roland 808 Drum Machine = something that sounds strangely like acid house...

As always I have knocked together a playlist for you to enjoy. It is by no means an extensive but It backs up what I have said above...

Tracklist:
  • Yaad aa raha hai -Bappi Lahiri (from Disco Dancer)
  • Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki - O Beraham Tune (goes on a bit feel free to skip)
  • Dil Lena Khel Hai Dildar Ka - Hot Song
  • Charanjit Singh - Raga Bhairav ( India invents Acid House...In 1982!!)
  • R.D Burman - The Burning Train Theme (edit) 1981

Trombone Silliness Indeed.

Parp!!

I just saw this on Youtube and damn rear soiled myself with mirth. The original video was pulled from Youtube. Perhaps because the chap featured realised he look like a prize plum. But thanks to the wonder of the internet I have found it again for you to enjoy.

UPDATE: "New York Philharmonic second trombonist David Finlayson took the Internet by storm over the weekend after he combined his musical instrument of choice with a GoPro camera to produce "something fantastic." via gawker

How To Get Rid Of The Christmas Tree

A fitting end.
With today being Sunday the 6th of January the superstitious among you will have already
un-decked the halls and recycled the Christmas tree (or at very least thrown in in the garden)

Here in Brighton we are lucky enough to have 'Christmas tree recycling points' which by now will probably resemble large children's playpens full of abused and unloved trees and the odd stray bit of tinsel.

These guys on the other hand have a better Idea when it comes to Christmas tree disposal...

Matt's Music Club: The 80's

A Typical 80's Party.

For a lot of people music from the 1980's can only be enjoyed whilst wearing an ironic mullet wig or jacket with sleeves rolled up to the elbows & espadrilles a la Miami Vice, usually at some 80's themed club night or boozy "ironic" house party. This is a sad state of affairs, where some peoples experience of music from the 80's will be Wham's Club Tropicana played slightly too loud while a dickhead in sweatbands and shiny running shorts menaces them with an inflatable palm tree in some parochial nightclub that smells of Lynx Africa, toilets and desperation.

In my way I hope to change the preconceptions of "80's Music" with a little playlist I have put together. It may not be everybody's cup of darjeeling but I am a man who is used to the stout boot of reality kicking him repeatedly in the wedding tackle now and again. Enjoy.

  • Yello - Bimbo (1980)
  • The Chameleons - Up The Down Escalator (1983)
  • Laid Back - White Horse (1983)
  • Chrome - Eyes To The Centre (1980)
  • A Guy Called Gerald - Voodoo Ray (1988)
  • Wally Badarou - Mambo (1984)
  • Grace Jones - Don't Cry, It's Only The Rhythm (1985)
  • Kleeer - Tonight (1984)
  • Zapp & Roger - Computer Love (1985)
  • Bobby Brown - Hawaii Nei I'll Miss You (1982)
  • Rick Grossman - Mellow Heaven Clout (1980)
  • Escape From New York OST - The Duke Arrives (1981)
  • Carlos Peron - Breaking-In (1988)
  • Charanjit Singh - Raga Bhairav (1982)
  • Tomorrow's World - Richard Denton & Martin Cook (1980)
  • Jon & Vangelis - Song Is (1983)

I Got The Doodle Bug.

In an effort to put some stuff on this blog that isn't just videos and pictures I have stolen from all over the internet I thought I would have a little go at creating some art. I don't know if this will become a regular thing but you never know... Here is my first attempt:

I call this "Manny is pretty sick".

The pieces are created with pictures taken on my mobile phone and then manipulated with an application called Doodle™. I think (like many artists) my talents will not truly be appreciated until I am dead or at least seriously injured. This is my second attempt:

This piece is called "Wilf transcends to the spiritual plain"

I'm quite proud of my work and have realised that  art is very easy when you find the right medium to express your inner thoughts and feelings. I am available for portrait commissions and open to offers of other artistic endeavours
